Automated External Defibrillators (AED) Donated to Save-A-Lot and the Delta Foundation in Portland

Sudden cardiac arrest can happen to anyone and claims the lives of approximately 350,000 people each year. When an AED (Automated External Defibrillator) is used quickly, a person’s chances of survival can double or even triple.

In December 2023, my husband survived a cardiac arrest thanks to a bystander who performed CPR and gym staff who used an AED. Out of deep gratitude for these lifesaving actions, we raised $10,000 to donate AEDs to organizations in areas of town with greater cardiac health needs – particularly those that may not have the funds to purchase one themselves.

We have donated AEDs to Save-A-Lot and the Delta Foundation in Portland and also given an AED to the Urban League! We are seeking additional recipient organizations. To qualify, organizations should meet certain criteria such as being open to the public, having high foot traffic, and having people willing to be trained in CPR. Ideal locations include locally owned businesses/workplaces, non-profits, gyms or churches.

One AED can cost anywhere between $1,500-$3,000, so take advantage of this opportunity! JCPS started installing AED’s in every school last year, not too long after Kentucky lawmakers discused the topic in Frankfort.

Now, all public schools in Kentucky require AEDs at high school practices and athletic sporting events, and they’re even required in dentist offices.
