“Somehow, everyone started calling me the editor,” Alma Wright recalled. “One day I asked Gordon, ‘Am I the editor?’ and he said, ‘You’re the editor.'”

This picture appeared in the Courier Journal, Central Southwest Section on August 15, 2007. Pictured from left to right: Charlie Frick, Editor Alma Wright, Anchor President Gordon Brown, and columnist Tim Crabtree. Gordon Brown sent the picture as part of memorabilia from the Portland Anchor. Everyone knows Charlie, who is known as the Anchor man. Alma was one of many who were instrumental in forming the first Portland Festival, the Police Auxiliary Children’s Christmas Party and worked with the Portland Anchor. Gordon Brown worked early on at the Boy’s Club in Portland and went on to be the CEO of Home of the Innocent until he retired. Tim Crabtree was born and raised in Portland and married his wife Rose who was born on Shippingport Island. Tim was involved in Outreach Ministries throughout Louisville and wrote amazing stories about life in Portland growing up, and was a champion Bowler.

When Gordon sent this photo he wrote, “I also wanted to share it because it is so characteristic of Portland (setting is Alma’s living room) and because it is reminiscent of American Gothic. The photo is very special to me because of all the memories and emotions that are stirred when I see it.”
