Kyros Brewing Co. Up for Sale After Passing One Year Anniversary

In 2017, Kyros owners Taylor Diaz and Nooch Saeedi sat in the old Engine 6 fire station at 2425 Portland Avenue, then the full-service home of Farm to Fork catering, after attending the Portland Art & Heritage Fair. They both fell in love with the building, and in 2022, with the encouragement of a close circle of friends, family and beer lovers, started making moves to turn their hoppy dreams into reality.

But by late September, owner Taylor Diaz broke the news that the brewery would be up for sale, as their closeknit family will become fragmented across the Atlantic Ocean, and the commitment to run the brewery will be too great for Diaz and his wife Sarah. The press release reads:

“Kyros Brewing Company is for sale! Kyros started almost four years ago as a dream between six friends: to create a community around good beer and better relationships that mimicked what we had on our back porch.  In many ways that dream has been realized including ways we weren’t expecting. The best part of this journey has been creating a third space to facilitate new relationships and deepening old ones.  We hold our community and experiences close to our hearts.

“A lot has changed in last few years.  We are now parents to two growing boys and Manooch and Jeana (Saeedi) are moving to Spain as we speak…Sarah and I have neither the capacity nor desire to run this business without the friends we started it with. This decision has been labored over painfully…”

Up until earlier this year, the Kyros enjoyed an exclusive, “speakeasy” appeal, as you could only enter via the Tyler Avenue alley in the back. “People would come in and say, ‘I didn’t know this place was here, and I live two blocks away’,” Diaz said.

With a brand-new sign out front, the welcoming space was ready to cement its status as a staple of the neighborhood. But now, although the brewery will be open during the transition, it will be up to new owners and investors to hopefully give the location a second life.

The press release continues: “We are hoping to find a buyer who will pick up the Kyros story and run with it or start their own story in our wonderful neighborhood.  We will remain open while we search for the right buyer.”

When I talked to Taylor and Nooch earlier this summer, they were most proud of the unique community they had created in a neighborhood they loved, starting with their Back Porch Club, a group of loyal craft brew enthusiasts, who receive a handmade mug from local pottery artists Christine Duke, Brittany Stoess and Lacy Eubanks. Nooch said the mug club organically built upon a group of regulars into a hearty crew of more than 30 people.

“The mug club is a condensed version of our regulars, who are really invested in what Kyros offers,” he said then. “Getting it launched is something we’re particularly proud of. There’s not anything like it in the neighborhood. It gives us the feeling that Kyros as an entity outside of the owners.”

Personally, I must add that I visited many times from the beginning and always enjoyed their finely crafted beer and warm hospitality and wish them well and look forward to hopefully another chapter in such a great location (near our homebase here at the Portland Museum).

The press release finally states:

“If you are interested or know someone who would be please give us a call at (202) 670-5763 or stop by the brewery and see us.  An owner will be present most Sundays.”
