I REMEMBER: Portland Taverns of the Past (1970s)

With the upcoming addition of High Street Public House, along with favorites Kyros Brewing, Shippingport Brewing, the Wright Place and Portland Beer Depot, we thought it would be fun to share some ads from the Portland Anchor in the 1970s, showing the vast amount of drinking establishments in the Portland neighborhood. Our question to you: what are your memories of these places? We’d love to hear your stories! Did anyone work at any these, or maybe a friend or family member? What types of bands played at the Schooner Café? Did anybody catch a game on the 7-foot screen at Kurtz’s Tavern during “mug time”? And in an era of $7 beers, the $6 case of Blatz sounds like a pretty good deal. Contact us today with your stories and memories!
