New Faces, New Mural, and New Flowers at Louisville Grows

Blooms Around the Block

After wrapping up our Seeds & Starts sales, Louisville Grows found a meaningful home for the remaining flower baskets by delivering them to businesses throughout the Portland neighborhood.

What started as a way to share a bit of beauty evolved into something more heartfelt-a gesture of gratitude and community connection. From local storefronts to community spaces, these colorful blooms now brighten windows and doorways across the neighborhood.

We’re proud to share a little beauty with the Portland neighborhood, home to so many vibrant and welcoming spaces. We’re grateful to everyone who helped make Seeds & Starts a success-your plant purchases made this possible!

We are excited to welcome Christine Brinkmann as our new Executive Director!

Christine comes to us with a heartfelt enthusiasm and a deep commitment to our community.

“I want to extend a warm thank you to everyone who has taken the time to greet me,” Christine said. “I feel truly grateful to be part of such a welcoming community.”

A passionate advocate for the environment, Christine is dedicated to fostering sustainable relationships and sharing her extensive knowledge of horticulture and culinary practices with others. She and her husband have made Louisville their home, where they are proud to raise their daughters amidst the vibrant culture of our city.

Outside of her professional pursuits, Christine enjoys tending to her diverse collection of animals and houseplants. In her free time, you can often find her in the kitchen whipping up delicious meals, nurturing her garden, or engrossed in a good book.

New Mural Brings Life to Healthy House Wall

A new splash of color is coming to the Portland neighborhood, thanks to local artist Jessica Chao, who recently began work on a mural on the side wall of Louisville Grows’ Healthy House. Now nearly complete, the mural features an explosion of colorful flowers that stretch across the wall, bringing new life and vibrancy to the Portland neighborhood.

The mural isn’t just eye-catching; it’s a celebration of beauty, growth, and joy in shared community spaces. What was once a plain exterior wall is now becoming a visual celebration of the neighborhood’s energy and resilience.

Swing by Louisville Grows on Friday, July 11th from 5-6pm for the Ribbon Cutting of What We Need Is Here, a new outdoor gathering space and site-specific installation by artists Jessica Chao, Claire Krüeger, Nathaniel Hendrickson, Peter Price, and Azucena Trejo. This Ribbon Cutting will coincide with the opening of an exhibition of work by Claire Krüeger at Louisville Grows from 5-8pm.

Curated by Lindsey Cummins as a part of Louisville Visual Art’s Curate Purchase Inspire program, the installations invite shared rest and reflection in the natural world.

As the flowers come to life in paint, they mirror the spirit of the Healthy House space, fostering connection, care, and nurturing what’s possible. Louisville Grows is proud to support public art that adds color to the neighborhood and invites all who pass by to stop, take a look, and witness the transformation as the mural nears completion.

The Portland-wide art evening is free and open to all and will include art, food, and drinks across several venues including Louisville Visual Art, the Portland Museum, and Outsider Art Museum. We hope to see you all there!

Sunflowers Coming Soon to Portland!

Last Friday, Louisville Grows teamed up with volunteers from Louisville Water Company to plant a full field of sunflowers directly on our campus, off Portland Avenue.

With sunshine, water, and a little patience, we’ll start seeing these beauties in full bloom in about 90 days. Until then, we invite our neighbors to stop by, check in on their progress, and join us in growing together.

A huge thank you to the incredible volunteers who helped get all those seeds in the ground- we can’t wait to see this field bursting with color later this summer!

Meet Seamus Allman, our new Urban Horticulture Manager!

Hi, I’m Seamus and I’m the new Urban Horticulture Manager for Louisville Grows.  I’ve lived in Louisville for about 20 years and have been working in agriculture and involved with local food businesses for most of that time.  I’m excited to be working in Portland and looking forward to connecting with people in the neighborhood and seeing how Louisville Grows can help make Portland a greener and healthier place to live.
