Western Middle School for the Arts to Present Annual Spooky Concert

The Western Middle School for the Arts (WMSA) Band, Orchestra, and Piano/Digital Music programs will create the first annual Spooky Concert on Tuesday, Oct. 28, at 5:30 p.m. in the school’s auditorium.

“The Spooky Concert is one of our new favorites,” said WMSA Band Director Adam Bullock. “It’s a fun way for our students to showcase their hard work while creating a magical atmosphere for families and the community. You’ll laugh, you’ll shiver, and you’ll definitely leave humming a tune.”

The program will feature performances of well-known works such as This Is Halloween from The Nightmare Before Christmas, Michael Jackson’s Thriller, Steven Reineke’s The Witch and the Saint, and other seasonal favorites.

In addition to the band and orchestra, students in the Piano/Digital Music program will contribute original sounds and songs. Using digital keyboards, iPads, and GarageBand software, they will add to the concert’s spooky atmosphere, according to Piano/Digital Music teacher Ben Powell.

“I can’t wait! The students are working really hard to impress their friends and families,” said Orchestra teacher Gabriella Batista.

Tickets are $5, with all proceeds supporting WMSA’s arts programs. Elementary school students are free. Costumes are encouraged for audience members.

Families interested in learning more about WMSA may attend the school’s Magnet Open House on Wednesday, Oct. 29, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. The event will include student performances and presentations from Principal Dr. Owens Patterson and members of the administration. The JCPS magnet application window runs Nov. 3 through Dec. 19.
