Shawnee Post 193 Gives Another Great Year of Easter Egg Hunting at Good Shepherd

On April 4th, 2026, The American Legion, Shawnee Post 193 held its Annual Easter Egg Hunt at Good Shepherd Catholic Parish. 15 years ago, we started this Easter Program for the children in our community. We found the best partner ever with Good Shepherd and they have allowed us to use their yard and kitchen ever since. We are extremely proud of our Auxiliary Unit 193 for taking the lead on this event and making sure that it happens. Here is a partial list of financial donors to make sure that this continues. This list is in no particular order and my apologies if we missed listing anyone:

  • Men of Good Shepherd
  • Auxiliary Unit 193
  • Iron Workers Local 70
  • Bar Fly’s AC
  • SAL Squadron 193
  • Shawnee Post 193
  • Bonnie Sloan Post 28
  • BJ’s Kustom Auto
  • Craven’s AC
  • The Wright Place
  • MHO Tax
  • Mr. Mike Potter
  • Mr. Earl Hartlage
  • The 40&8
  • Many anonymous donors

Derby City Express delivered the Easter Rabbit on a day that had perfect weather. 5,000 eggs were strategically placed across the yard. A hot meal was provided for everyone that came. Easter Baskets were given to each child, along with a bag of candy. Door prizes were given that included 6 new bicycles. All in all, it was a fantastic day for all of us. We would be remiss if we did not pay special thanks to several members of our Auxiliary that took the lead at this year’s event. Melanie Walker, Susan Rich and Jean Roberts. There were many more from the Legion, Auxiliary, SAL and Church that worked hard as well. We know that it takes a village to make these kinds of events go on year after year and we thank everyone for that.

Shawnee Post is very active in our community. Please follow us on our Facebook page for more activities. Memorial Day is coming up, and we host a dignified program in Portland Cemetery followed by a terrific lunch at the Post. Everyone is welcome to attend.
