Homebuyer LaQuisha: Building a Place to Call Her Own

LaQuisha has spent her life in Louisville, surrounded by family, community, and the belief that home is where everything begins. Inspired by her sister, who successfully completed the Habitat program, and her parents, who created a stable home for their family, LaQuisha knew homeownership was possible for her too.

As a school administrator at Maupin Elementary, LaQuisha dedicates her days to supporting children, teachers, and families pouring into her community while working toward a better future for her own.

Her journey hasn’t been without challenges. After experiencing ongoing maintenance issues in her current housing, she realized it was time for something more stable and lasting.

“I had to realize I was paying someone else’s mortgage when I should be paying my own,” she shares.

When she received the call that she had been accepted into Habitat’s homeownership program, she was overwhelmed with emotion—feeling as though her prayers had been answered.

For LaQuisha, home is more than a structure—it’s a foundation for family It’s where Sunday dinners happen, where memories are made, and where peace, joy, and stability can truly take root.

The first thing she plans to do in her new home? Host a family dinner— bringing everyone together in a space she can finally call her own.

This activation was a hands-on wall build at Habitat for Humanity of Metro Louisville’s warehouse. Ford employees worked together to construct a wall that will become part of LaQuisha’s future home.

The experience included:

  • Ford employee engagement
  • Louisville Habitat volunteers assisting Ford employees

These walls will become part of a permanent home—turning a morning of service into a lifetime of impact for LaQuisha.

Safe, affordable housing is one of the most powerful tools for strengthening families and communities.

  • In Louisville, more than 1 out of 5 children live in poverty.
  • Habitat for Humanity of Metro Louisville has helped more than 1,000
families build or improve the place they call home
  • Habitat mortgage payments are less than 30% of a Homebuyers income,
    keeping housing affordable

Habitat for Humanity of Metro Louisville brings people together to build homes, communities and hope. Since 1985, the organization has partnered with families, volunteers, and community supporters to expand access to safe, affordable homeownership.
