“I sat and talked to her when she was planning her retirement, and her hopes that the church would carry on when she left. She was proud of the things that she had accomplished in Portland. She talked about the many people she had met in the community and how Good Shepherd Catholic Church and Father Burke opened their church after the devastating fire that destroyed the first Presbyterian Church on Portland Avenue on January 16, 2009.”

Dr. Hugo Pavon, Owner and Primary Dentist for Portland Dental Center, to Retire
“It has been a privilege to treat multiple generations of Portland families. I am certain that Dr. Seyal will continue to provide excellent dental care and services to the community. I have many lasting memories of my patients and my incredible staff. Portland has always been a special place for me, and I hope that I have been able to give as much to the people of Portland as they have given to me.”
Nardie Finds His Calling in the Arts Non-Profit World
“When I was at the Parkland Boys and Girls Club I worked with the Imani Dance Company, which was based in African rhythms. I let them rehearse at the space, and then that’s how I stumbled into drumming. I couldn’t drum. I couldn’t drum to save my own…I don’t even have rhythm, as quiet as it’s kept. Something that was only supposed to be a summer program lasted 30 years.”

We are incredibly thankful to all of the volunteers who came out before the event and helped us clean the place up: Goodwill Kentucky’s Another Way Program, UofL’s SOUL Day of Service, and members of our Board of Directors!
