Our 13th annual Portland Art and Heritage Fair from noon to 5PM on Saturday, September 26th makes use of our entire campus, and it’s tough for our small staff to keep up with the groundskeeping all that space requires. As such, we are incredibly thankful to all of the volunteers who came out before the event and helped us clean the place up!

First up were the amazing people of Goodwill Kentucky’s Another Way program, who across multiple days really cleared the overgrowth along our fencelines and totally resuscitated our parking lot with an army’s worth of weedeaters and people-power. They also carefully weeded and mulched our new row of sunflowers, which are now blooming! Next was a group of UofL students participating in their Engage Lead Serve Board’s SOUL Day of Service who went to work on our flowerbeds and helped me clean leaves off our roof. Among them were Emilie Zengel and Piper Greeby who were essential to Portland Museum’s Line Byline exhibition as interns back in 2025, and it was great having them back! Lastly was a group from the Portland Museum Board of Directors led by its President Michael Janok who put the finishing touch on everything. The crew included members’ families and steadfast Portland Anchor contributor Elijah Humble! Thanks to everyone from all three groups who stopped by and helped us out, and come visit Portland Museum yourself to see the fruits of their labor!
