New Directions Housing Corporation broke ground on the Roosevelt Senior Apartments at 225 N. 18th Street in the Portland Neighborhood. This $8.9 million dollar project will create 36 subsidized one-bedroom apartments for seniors 62 and older. These apartments will be fully ADA compliant, with such features as roll-in showers, dishwashers, and fully accessible washer and dryer units

The Portland Free Wedding Day!
I am happy to announce that the Portland Free Wedding Day was a success! The first wedding was of Stephane and Charles “Pico” Mitchell, and the second; Tiffany and Matt Cotton. Each wedding was uniquely lovely and memorable. The day was so wonderful and we are hoping to make the Portland Free Wedding Day an annual event!

Lafayette Celebration Draws Big Crowd on Rudd
Chants rang out on Rudd Avenue on Saturday, May 11th as Portland celebrated the 200th anniversary of The Marquis De Lafayette’s visit to Portland on May 11th, 1825. The day’s celebrations began at Good Shepherd Church. On the corner of Rudd Ave. and Cedar Grove Terrace, beneath the Portland Mooring Rings, a commemorative plaque was unveiled.
American Legion Shawnee Post 193 11th Annual Easter Egg Hunt
The American Legion Shawnee Post 193 held its 11th Annual Easter Egg Hunt on April 19, 2025. As in past years, we partnered with Good Shepherd Catholic Parish and held the event on their grounds. There was a threat of rain that morning, but Mother Nature cooperated with us, and the event was a great success. We estimate 75 kids from 0-10 years old attended.
